Write up in this weeks LV Weekly

Aaron Thompson interviewed me last week for this latest weeks edition of the Las Vegas Weekly. If you pick up a physical copy, it's on page 39. You'll find a link to where it's at on the LV Weekly website on the bottom of this post.

While I'm super stoked about this (thanks Aaron!), there is a false fact in the article: The band pays for nothing but the recording. They supply the music and anything they want artwork wise, and I press the record. Anyhow, yeah, check it out here:

Also, Travis is about halfway done with the covers for the Action Cat record. Here's what 75 of the 300 covers will look like:

There's 4 sets of 75, with different color variations of the screen. He showed up with the first 150 about a week ago (75 burgundy and pink, 75 brown and white), when he shows up with the rest, I'll post pics of the other colors. Zombie Jenn is taking care of the center labels, and they should be done real soon. Meaning of course, that the Action Cat 7" will actually be officially released before October.

I Am The Thief just played my living room Friday night, and their record is coming out next. Luckily, everything is just about done layout wise, and as soon as I get my shit together and send Mark the artwork for the label address, then he'll give me everything I need, and then it's off to the printers/pressing plant. I'm hoping around Halloween, because a Halloween record release show would rule, but the way my luck goes, it will be out no earlier than Thanksgiving. Let's hope nothing gets screwed up at either the pressing plant, or the printers. Let's hope.

Distribution:

I haven't gone as far as sending records out for distribution yet because a)I'm still waiting on the rest of the covers/vinyl for Action Cat, and b) I want to wait for the I Am The Thief record to be in my hands so I have more than one title to send to places. I do plan on dropping some off at both Zia records in town very soon though. The same goes for House Of Commons. So if you're interested in picking it up, let me know, and I'll get some down there sooner. Or, you can just order them from me or the bands themselves.

That's all I got this time around...I'll keep you posted as shit happens

The First Post

For the past 15 years or so I've seen a lot of great Las Vegas bands come and go, a lot of which never even get past recording a demo. A few years back I decided that if I was ever in a position to do so, that I'd start up a small record label focusing on those smaller, newer bands just starting out. Each pressing will be small (I'm keeping it to 500 right now...maybe more later), and half of every pressing will go directly to the band for them to sell at shows. This is a hobby, something to help out my friends bands who I feel deserve to be heard outside of the small social circles that most bands/scenes seem to get trapped in. Hopefully you like what you hear. Action Cat's 'The Glasgow Sailor' EP is out now.

Above are what the first 100 copies look like. Most are clear red, about 25 are pink, and even few are purple. The labels are blank and hand stamped with a stamp that reads: Action Cat 'The Glasgow Sailor' EP 1st Press. RIP-001. They're blank because I was trying to rush the process so the band would have them for their short tour they took in June. That plan failed, and the records finally made it to my doorstep a little over a week ago. Our friend Travis Jackson is supposed to be drawing up a cover to be silk screened for these 100, but he's been MIA as of late, so who knows what's up with that. I do know that another friend, Jimmy L. Woodall drew up a quick cover that was printed up on the white paper sleeve the records came with. A picture of that is above also.

What else is new?

-Well, as soon as Action Cat comes up with an actual cover design for the 'regular' covers, then those will printed up, as well as more records being pressed for those.

-I Am The Thief just recorded an amazing 6 song EP, that prior to listening to, I suggested they pick 3 or 4 of the best songs so everything will fit onto a 7". After actually hearing it though, I've decided to just release it as is, as a 12" EP. I'm hoping for the fall, October/November, but if I get my shit together and have it out sooner, you'll hear about it.

-The Fucking Party EP should be out by the beginning of '09...I'm hoping at least.

Anyhow, that's all I got for now. I promise I'll keep this updated about once a week, who cares if I even have anything to tell you...I'll keep it interesting.

If you've read this far, and you're interested in actually buying an Action Cat 7", you can get it here via paypal:

It'll cost you $4.50 this way, because Paypal adds 50cents to every transaction. If you only wanna pay $4 (plus the cost of 39cent stamp...and however much your money order is going to cost) for a copy, you can send well hidden cash, checks, or money orders made out to Robert Franks at this address right here:
